Stampede Burnout Now with Text

Gif's are made even better with flashing text. Perhaps this is just an experiment to see if my GIF creation skills were up to the task. Or this GIF should further remind everyone just how much fun driving an R/C can be!

Don't like the colors? We are working on that. With any hope we should have some easier to read GIF's up soon.

Arrma Burnout GIF

As promised, another R/C GIF. The Arrma Raider XL is one of those R/C's that looks like an actual buggy or desert buggy. It's becoming more rare as buggies that are designed for racing have taken on a functional shape that ends up looking a little bit goofy.

This GIF is for all our R/C friends who are stuck inside or too busy to R/C. This GIF should remind you of the finer and more enjoyable things in life. Like racing R/C's through the dirt and kicking up giant dust clouds. Enjoy the simple things...and this GIF!

As always, got a request for a GIF or story? Need us to try out your product? We are always looking for suggestions and sponsors. Leave us a note today!

Stampede Burnout GIF

The world just needs more GIFs, particularly R/C GIFs. Here is recent GIF constructed from a recent bashing session with the Stampede and (coming soon) the Arrma Raider XL. Few things in life are as fun as tearing up the dirt and spraying a giant rooster tail. Well, now you can get close to experience on an endless repeating loop on your computer. Hopefully this brightens the day of R/C enthusiasts everywhere!

Stay tuned for more R/C GIFs. Got a recommendation for a GIF? Send us a note with a request.

R/C Wreck GIF

New GIF posted, this is a classic tank slapper or fish tail in slow motion. The TL-01 with the Lotus body on top gets pushed out of shape and the GoPro goes tumbling. Hilarious :)!

Stay tuned for more GIF's and tell us what you think, comments are always welcome.

Need to get your R/C Drift GIF fix? Check this out

Based on the popularity of the previous GIF, here is another. This was shot on the same day as the famous Bash Brothers Video. There is something about watching an R/C car drift through the pine needles which is just clean fun. Enjoy!

Bash Brothers RC Big Squid Pro-Line Racing Big Bash Video Contest

Been busy lately working on this project so haven't had much in the way
of new posts in a while. Good news, MulkeyFilms has entered it's first
film contest! How exciting! The R/C hobby has given us lots of hours of
entertainment and now it's our time to give back. Sit back and enjoy the
clip. If you have any friends over at BigSquidRC or Pro-Line let them
know this video is worthy of a first place finish.

TT-01 Top Speed Testing 2S

Today, I set out to clock the top speed of the TT-01 with the new 2S battery. Previously I was able to acheive about 34 to 39 mph on an old LiPo battery. With the idea in my head that a newer battery should equal better performance I went out to find out if it was faster.

After a nice smooth run around the parking lot to warm up the tires I decided to give it all she had. Much to my surprise the first high speed pass recorded 42 mph! Not bad I thought, a newer battery can eek out a little bit higher top speed.

Tangent: A few weeks earlier I was showing a friend of mine, Mr. Scott, (longtime R/C Buddy and friend of the blog) the new battery and did a short test run before losing some pieces from my driveline in a spectacular rollover wreck. Before the wreck Mr. Scott commented that with the new battery this car seemed faster than before (he was right!).

Well, after a few high speed passes today I decided to look at the GPS and here is what I saw
44.4 mph! Nicely displayed on the GPS was a new top speed and if you look at the odometer you'll see that I was able to run for 1.1 miles. I was nowhere near having a dead battery but since I didn't want to totally drain the LiPo I decided to head in. I got to thinking, I wonder how far a battery could go. Speed is one measure, distance could be the next measurement to track. Is it possible to run an R/C for 5 miles? Is it possible to run for 3 miles? Would a higher gear ratio/lower speed gear make it more efficient. (Perhaps an upcoming blog post could answer these questions).

In my quest of 50 mph I may try the TL-01 with the new battery next and see how close I am to the next level. I may also switch to a smooth body and smaller tires to achieve 50 mph from the TT-01. If that doesn't do it? Bring on a 3S LiPo and we'll see what happens.

Arrma Raider BLX Shake Down Run #1

As with any new R/C, I find it takes a couple of shakedown runs to have everything tuned and setup to one's liking. In this case, this was a quick shakedown run of the Arrma Raider BLX with a sport LiPo pack.  Run was cut short with a rear shock which was requiring some attention. So far very pleased with the Raider BLX. It handles the big stuff without any issue and can be tossed around without any fear of a busted A-arm. Check out the video below

Arrma Raider BLX Unboxing

Arrma Raider BLX 1/8th Scale Unboxing

It's the newest addition to the fleet of R/C's at MulkeyFilms.  It's also the
biggest and the first buggy to be tested in over 7 years (wow!). That's
right it's the ARRMA Raider BLX 1/8th scale buggy. It's quite a setup
with a brushless system right out of the box, metal gears and a 2.4ghz
radio system. Oh and there's a NiMH battery pack and charger included.

Now if the weather would hold long enough for me to get out and get some
runs in. Preliminary testing around the neighborhood proves this buggy
is a very good jumper and very stable when it lands.

Here is the unboxing, more videos soon to come. Stay Tuned...

Tamiya TT-01 Neutral Setup

Check out the Tamiya TT-01 running with a Neutral Setup

This chassis setup this way is a great way to entertain. Hanging the tail out and drifting too close to curbs is the best fun. This is only the second run with this setup and I'm very pleased with the result. Next step is to increase the speed a little bit. With this gear ratio the TT-01 pushes out quite a bit of torque and the 4600kw brushless motor handles the task. Motor temps were nice and cool. Battery stayed cool too.

The tires did get a little stickier as they warmed up, naturally. This builds driver confidence even more. Can't wait to drive this again. Coming soon is a 26T pinion upgrade. Stay Tuned!

Tamiya TL-01 Maximum Gear Ratio Top Speed GPS Verified

Check out this video of the tuned TL-01

The TL-01 has been an excellent choice for budget and beginning r/c-ers. Along the way
some of us get the bug and start modifying the ole chassis. This quickly becomes a fun experiment of what to change and what the benefit is. The first is usually an upgrade to oil filled shocks, tuned springs and a speed-tuned gear.

After that came lightweight parts and an anti-roll bar. Then (for some) upgrading a diff. Well, here
is a heavily modified and tuned TL-01.

Not bad for a 15 year old chassis which was designed in the days of ESC's and brushed
motors. Pretty impressive that this chassis can even handle the power from today's modern brushless systems and LiPo batteries.

Runs pretty quick, video in the link below. GPS verified top speed in the 40 mph range

Tamiya TL-01 Maximum Gear Ratio Top Speed

Here is the finished result of the TL01. Running on a wide open parking lot the TL hit just over 40 mph. Not bad! Good handling up around the top speed. Next time I hope to run this on a warmer day and get the steering trimmed in a little better. This should result in perhaps a little higher top speed. Hope to get another speed run in soon, stay tuned!

Venom Atomik Shortcourse R/C Off-Road Test

Check out the new Video of the Venom Atomik ShortCourse Truck in action. Stay tuned until the end of the video as the fun really gets going as the jumps get better. This is the 1/8th scale Short Course Truck that refuses to get stuck. It's very impressive in person and is quite insane in speed and the sheer size of the truck.

Special thanks to the owner who let us shoot this video. He is a long time friend of the author and blogger :)!

 Enjoy!

Watch a Lexus Drift years before the Superbowl Lexus RC Drift Commercial

Yup, an olde but a goodie. Here it is, the original Lexus drifting video :). @Lexus probably needs more R/C drivers. Consider this my informal application. What are the odds it would even be the same color?
